Frequency Asked Questions

Marsh Brothers

  • Does the BMC kit come with the piston?

No, BMC kits do not caintain the piston. However, it comes with the hardware needed to complete the job and installaiton tooling.

  • How does the Marsh Brothers roller address the issue of damage to the sides of the tracks?

Instead of Teflon, Marsh Brothers’ rollers employ an AeroTough® GF thrust washer between the roller flange and track sidewall. AeroTough® GF is tougher than Teflon and will not herniate, crack and dislodge under load.

  • How does the Marsh Brothers roller simplify the installation?

Marsh Brothers’ roller is a flanged roller design, meaning that there is no separate phenolic and steel washer. Additionally, instead of a Teflon washer, Marsh Brothers’ design incorporates an AeroTough® GF washer that is an integral part of the roller. This results in a single roller bearing to be installed with the standard bolt, nut and washer hardware versus many parts included in the OEM roller.

  • How do I know if the BMC kit will fit my aircraft?

It is critical the owner or maintenance shop obtain a PN off the brake master cylinder assembly, not from the IPC manual.

  • How do Marsh Brothers' kits differ from the OEM parts they replace?

The kits fit exactly the same space that the OEM parts do. However, the most important difference is that the parts in the kits cannot corrode or seize together because of the self lubricating polymer bushings used to replace the steel bushings. If the steel OEM parts corrode and seize, the result is costly repairs to the supporting structure in the wing.

  • How easy are the kits to install?

It's just a matter of removing the doors, pressing out the steel bushings and then pressing in the replacement parts. The kits include all necessary hardware including new bolts and spacers. Where the OEM sleeve part is flanged, the space is made up with a thin washer. Installation videos are available to demonstrate kit installation.

  • How should I clean the Marsh Brothers flap rollers?

The rollers are highly resistant to incursion by debris, dust, and other particles. Should the ingestion of various particles become an issue, the aircraft operator can use the same cleaners, detergents, and solvents approved by the aircraft manufacturer. Marsh Brothers have performed compatibility tests with no detriment of the roller’s integrity.

  • What are the benefits associated with Marsh Brothers' product?

Longer life-time, grease-free operation, does not support corrosion, decrease in weight, self lubricates.

  • What if I lubricate the polymer bushings?

You don't need to, but it's not a problem if someone doesn't know the bushings have been fitted and decides to put lubrication into the hinges. The bushings will function properly in oil or grease, but it is not necessary.

  • What is the benefit of the spinner washers?

Typical spinner washers are made from thin nylon and require frequent replacement. Nylon washers fail under the pressure exerted by the screw's head. MBA spinner washer solves this problem by conforming the the curvature of the spinner, and its extra thickness has a vibration dampening effect.

  • What is the issue with the OEM flap roller?

It is a traditional sealed grease packed needle roller bearing that relies on supplemental lubrication. Over time the grease dries out resulting in a degradation in the rollers performance.

  • What is the polymer used in the kits?

Marsh Brothers developed a new poylmer formula specifically for aerospace which they call AeroTough™ GF, for "grease free". Lubricant is bult into the polymer, completely eliminating any need for periodic lubrication.

  • What makes the Marsh Brothers roller better than the OEM?

Marsh Brothers’ self-lubricating roller has no metal rolling element. Instead, it utilizes a proprietary self-lubricating polymer called AeroTough® GF. Since AeroTough® GF does not rely on supplemental lubrication, it will never dry out and degrade.

  • Which fuel cap washer will fit my fuel cap?

We have three types of fuel cap washers. In order to know the correct washer, the fuel cap part number must be known. It can usually be found at the bottom of the fuel cap assembly.

  • Why does damage to the sides of the flap tracks occur?

There are two reasons. First, the OEM Teflon washers provide great low friction characteristics, however the material is not very robust and is prone to herniating and dislodging under load

  • Why is the OEM roller installation complicated?

The OEM design uses many elements including a needle roller, a separate thrust washer, and a separate Teflon washer. Furthermore, there are two separate thrust washers, a steel one and a phenolic one.

  • Will one Landing Gear Door Hinge Kit do the entire aircraft (both RH/LH main gears)?

Yes, one kit will do both the left and right main landing gear doors.
