Cutting to Length |
Not sure which one fits? Measure your existing inner barrel before ordering. Many nose struts have been serviced or overhauled without record, which means your actual barrel length could differ from the approved eligibility. It is critical to read the instructions on how to measure your inner barrel below. When in doubt, call us before you buy.
⚠️ Important: All inner barrels are shipped undrilled. You (or your shop) will need to drill for proper fork assembly fitment and torque link mounting (if applicable), unless you use our optional match drilling services. See the Optional Services section below.

Measuring Your Inner Barrel:
To ensure you order the correct part number, measure your existing inner barrel.
- Remove your existing inner barrel. Separate the lower strut assembly from the shock strut tube assembly. (See Cessna Maintenance instructions to complete this operation).
- Remove upper bearing and lock ring from the top of the inner barrel.
- Remove fasteners, metering pin assembly, and then pull fork from the lower end of the inner barrel.
- Measure from edge to edge. Use a tape measure to determine the length from one end to the opposite end of the inner barrel. Reference the image in figure 1.
- Your existing inner barrel should measure within +/- 0.125" of your selected inner barrel part number. If your measurement does not align with the inner barrel options available, we recommend purchasing the 18" un-cut MCSTRT-C00 and cutting to your exact length. Optional services are available to match your existing inner barrel length.
Tips for Custom-Cutting
If you choose to perform your own cutting:
- Be cautious with chrome plating. Cutting improperly can cause the chrome to peel.
- Recommended tools: well-maintained bandsaw, lathe tooling, or use precision tooling for grinding through the chrome plating first and then sawing through the barrel.
- Clean thoroughly before and after cutting. Remove debris, shavings, oil, or plating residue before installation.
- Drilling required: the bolt hole to affix the fork assembly to the inner barrel must be drilled. Consider using our match drilling services for precision and safety.
- Shop recommended: many customers choose to send their uncut inner barrel to a shop or specialty facility for proper cutting. We recommend this.
