Does this part satisfy FAA AD 71-22-02?

AD 71-22-02 was issued due to reports of cracking in early-style Cessna nose gear forks under high-stress conditions. It requires inspection of the original nose forks and replacement if cracks are found, or no later than 1,800 hours time in service. The terminating action specifies installation of a later-type fork identified by certain forging numbers. The FAA issued an AMOC to AD 71-22-02 approving the use of MC0442503-6 as an alternative means of compliance. Once MC0442503-6 is installed with the AMOC, AD 71-22-02 is no longer applicable to that aircraft

Yes. The FAA issued an AMOC to AD 71-22-02 approving the use of MC0442503-6 as an alternative means of compliance. This AMOC is applicable to Cessna 150, 172, 175, and 182 series aircraft affected by the AD. Once installed with the AMOC, AD 71-22-02 is no longer applicable to that aircraft.

How is the fork installed?

Installation follows Cessna service kits SK182-34C or SK205-3B, as applicable to the aircraft. The nose strut inner barrel is pressed into the fork's upper bore with a 0.0005 to 0.0025 inch interference fit. After pressing, the inner barrel is rotated 90 degrees and pressed into the fork. The fork and inner barrel assembly is then installed on the nose gear strut per the service kit instructions. Estimated installation time per the Cessna service kit is approximately 4 hours.

Should I replace the inner barrel at the same time as the fork?

If replacing the nose gear fork, it is worth inspecting the nose strut inner barrel at the same time. The fork's upper bore is a press fit to the inner barrel, and a worn or corroded inner barrel will compromise that fit, degrade strut performance, and expedite wear on all surrounding components.
