The Alaska Gear Company AF51705 parking brake is an FAA-PMA approved direct replacement for the Scott 4500A-1 parking brake, which is no longer in production. Designed for a wide range of Piper PA-18, PA-19, PA-20, PA-22 aircraft, this brake provides a dependable replacement solution for aging or worn parking brake systems.
Built with a hard anodized finish, the AF51705 offers superior corrosion protection and durability, especially compared to bare aluminum parking brake assemblies that lack surface protection. The precision-machined valve design ensures reliable brake hold, helping prevent unintended aircraft movement during parking, engine start-up, or ground operations, particularly important for aircraft operating on uneven terrain or in windy conditions.
Installed between the master cylinder and brake caliper, the system is simple to install and operate. To activate, depress the brakes, engage the distinctive gold lever, and release, locking the brakes securely in place. Depressing the brake pedals again automatically disengages the parking brake, helping prevent inadvertent activation before landing or takeoff.
Conveniently mounted beneath the front seat, the lever is easily accessible to the pilot. The design also allows installation of a linkage rod, enabling rear occupants to engage the parking brake if desired.
