FAA-PMA approved tach cables for many Cessna 100 and 200 series single engine aircraft
Improved design outlasts the OEM
Inner core assemblies are captive, pre-lubricated, and have male ends only. One end is 0.102 squared, and the other is keyed with a 0.152 diameter. The core is left lay, matching the OEM parts. Tach cable assemblies have 7/8-18 internal thread on one end, and 5/8-18 internal thread on the other.
Tach cables primarily fail from binding. You may experience your tach needle responding in abnormal ways. There are specific instructions in the service manual for how to properly install the cable or troubleshoot any issues; visit our FAQs page for more information or give our technical support team a phone call at 1-866-920-2741.
Note: ensure you order the right part. Eligible aircraft listed on our eligibility tab and the PMA supplement is for the original engine in the aircraft. If you have an engine conversion or modifications, then the control that we list as eligible for your aircraft may not fit as intended. You may need to order a custom-built tach cable from our customs department.
So, why are the McFarlane tach cables better? Our tach cable design has improved strength compared to the OEM. When testing torsional strength, our core exceeds the OEM core, which is exceptionally important with the functionality and reliability of the tach cable. Some may inquire about replacing the core of the tach cable only, rather than replacing the full assembly. When replacing the core only, your old casing will have wear, and sometimes the wear can be significant enough to prevent a brand-new core from rotating smoothly when used with the old casing. Because of this, we do not offer replacement cores, and we highly recommend replacing your full tach cable assembly instead. Our full assemblies are an affordable alternative with better strength and reliability than a simple core replacement or a full assembly from the OEM.
