Frequently Asked Questions

Brake Master Cylinders

  • Can I install just the LH or RH side and keep the other Scott cylinder?

No. Per our ICA instructions, it is required for both cylinders to be replaced as a matched LH/RH pair, mixing a new cylinder with an old Scott unit isn't approved.

  • Does the kit include both left- and right-hand cylinders?

Yes. AF51695K is a set that includes both the LH and RH side master cylinders

  • How much do they weigh?

Each cylinder weighs 1.09 lbs, making it the lightest brake master cylinder on the market while delivering the heaviest stopping power.

  • Is this a replacement for my Scott master cylinder?

Yes, the AF51695K brake master cylinders replace Scott 1248H (LH) and 1260H (RH) as a complete kit. However, your aircraft must already have FAA-approved high-pressure brake lines and calipers rated for at least 1,698 PSI. Refer to the ICA for more information.

  • What aircraft are the McFarlane Alaska brake master cylinders (AF51695K) eligible for?

    AF51695K fits Piper PA-11, PA-12, PA-14, PA-18, PA-19, PA-20, and PA-22 series aircraft, as well as the J3 and J5

  • What is the pressure regulation system?

Vented. This keeps the reservoir supplied as brake linings wear, removing the need to frequently top off fluid, a maintenance step that's been linked to past brake-related incidents when skipped.

  • What makes these master cylinders different from the standard ones?

They use a 13/16" diameter piston instead of the standard 1" piston. The smaller bore generates higher hydraulic pressure with less foot-pedal effort, giving a more controlled, progressive brake feel
