Alaska Gear Company

Wheel Assemblies, Brake Assemblies, and Complete Kits

After mastering the bush tire, in 2013 Alaska Gear Company's Alaskan Bushwheels turned to improving the standard Cleveland wheel and brake design. The FAA-PMA result of that design process is the line of ABI wheel and brake kits.

  • Anodized using MIL SPEC A-8625, Type II, Class II, Black
  • More resistant to corrosion
  • Longer lasting
  • Complete kit and subassembly parts available
  • FAA-PMA Approved

Due to the material improvement of being made with aluminum versus magnesium, ABI wheel and brake kits improve corrosion resistance and part longevity particularly in wet or salty environments. ABI kits contain all components required to replace the existing wheels and brakes for one aircraft.

Bushwheel 29 Tundra Tire

Heavy-Duty 29" Bushwheel for Short Takeoff and Rough Field Operations

The Alaskan Bushwheel 29 is an FAA-STC approved tundra tire designed for extreme off-airport and backcountry operations where soft surfaces, rough terrain, and short takeoff and landing performance demand maximum flotation and impact absorption. Featuring a sealed, integrated tubeless construction, this 29" tire operates safely at very low inflation pressures to deliver smoother, more forgiving landings while reducing the risk of pinch flats and in-field tube failures.

Available in “Classic” or “Heavy Tread” configurations, the Bushwheel 29 provides proven durability, traction, and reliability for bush pilots, operators, and aircraft working in sand, gravel, tundra, riverbeds, snow, and unimproved strips under STC SA01015SE.

Tailwheel Shimmy Dampener

A compact and lightweight assembly that hydraulically dampens oscillations in the tailwheel to eliminate tailwheel shimmy and stabilize your tailwheel. The tailwheel shimmy dampener is designed to compensate for improper tailwheel caster angle, reduce internal tailwheel assembly friction, and poor tail wheel maintenance.

  • FAA-PMA Approved
  • Smooth landings
  • Reduced aircraft wear and tear
  • No headache installation and maintenance
  • Includes STC

Other Considerations:

  • Not compatible with the T3 Tailwheel Suspension
  • A long pawl (ABI3219-02) assembly is REQUIRED.
  • Installation of the tailwheel shimmy dampener on Cessna 170 aircraft with 3200 Series tailwheel assemblies requires and aircraft-specific leaf spring adapter plate.
