E-Magneto Adapter Kits
EMAG Auto Spark Plug Adapter Bundles
Adapter kits convert the standard 18mm aircraft spark plug thread in your cylinders to accept 14mm automotive-style spark plugs for use with the E-MAG ignition system. Must match your cylinder thread depth (Short Reach or Long Reach).
E-MAG auto plug adapter kits convert the 18mm aircraft spark plug bore in Lycoming and Continental experimental engines to accept standard 14mm automotive spark plugs. Aircraft engines are manufactured with either Short Reach (SR, ~1/2" thread depth) or Long Reach (LR, ~3/4" thread depth) cylinder bores, select the correct kit to match your engine.
To identify your cylinder thread depth:
- Short Reach (SR): Aircraft plug call-out contains the letter "M" (e.g., REM series). SR adapters reduce 18mm to 14mm thread for short reach (19mm) auto plugs (NGK BR8ES or BR8EIX).
- Long Reach (LR/LRX): Aircraft plug call-out contains the letter "B" (e.g., REB series). LR adapters reduce 18mm to 14mm thread for long reach (26.5mm) auto plugs (Denso IKH27). LRX adapters are the same as LR except the hex head is extended to better fit certain Continental (six cylinder) heads where the plug insertion face is recessed.
- Thread depth can also be measured directly in the cylinder
Installation Note: Always install the spark plug into the adapter first (finger-tight and fully seated), then install the combined assembly into the engine. Torque to 18 ft/lb through the spark plug only, do NOT torque the adapter directly. Use anti-seize sparingly on the engine-side threads only.
